Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the close supervision of the Director of IT, this entry level position exists to perform diagnostics, repairs and preventative maintenance upon various generations of inventory counting terminals, scanners, scales, PC's, laptops and related peripheral equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain WIS production equipment through various levels of repair, generations of hand held Terminals, scanners, scales, PC's, laptops, and other related peripheral equipment.

Effect repairs to assigned equipment by following established Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and safety standards and procedures.

Maintain software by installing, configuring and troubleshooting various applications.

Coordinate repair projects and equipment upgrades by testing new hardware and software as well as by tracking progress on assignments.

Track each repair service performed by maintaining accurate and detailed records.

Protect company equipment by utilizing proper testing and repair procedures.

Keep Director of IT and Repair Depot Lead informed by communicating any significant repair trends.


Requirements

Education:

Normally requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. An electronics certificate, AS degree or equivalent technical training/experience involving the repair of specialized electronic equipment is preferred but not required. A+, Novell, Microsoft certification is a plus.

Experience:

No previous experience necessary.

Skills:

Ability to manipulate/operate hand tools, soldering equipment, and electronic test equipment, to read data and information visually from electronic test equipment, and to recognize indications of computer or peripheral equipment mechanical failure/malfunction is a plus. Ability to visually distinguish small electronic components and effect repairs, as well as read and follow color codes and schematic drawings.

Ability to safely use hand tools and a variety of liquid chemicals.

Ability to think logically in order to plan, test and repair equipment in a timely and efficient manner.

Ability to utilize various data bases and spread sheets to log and track repairs is a plus.

Ability to understand and follow proper repair procedures and safety standards.

Ability to effectively communicate technical information, both verbally and in writing.

EFFORT FACTORS:

Physical Demands:

Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of minor electrical shocks, soldering iron burns, and adverse

reactions to chemicals used in the repair process.

Incumbent must be able to move boxes of equipment weighing up to 50 lbs routinely.

Requires the ability to sit continuously, stand occasionally and walk occasionally.

Regularly requires a great deal of visual concentration using equipment such as a computer.

Mental Demands:

Must be mentally adaptable and flexible to deal with a variety of people and changing priorities

Must be able to handle the pressure of working to schedules, may occasionally require unusual hours of

work or time zone changes, longer than normal days and deadlines

Must be able to analyze data in a computerized environment

Must be able to communicate in a professional manner
